Toi Ora - Harakeke Weaving Workshop - Nelson Arts Festival

Monday 15th–Sunday 28th October 2012

Learn to harvest, prepare and weave using harakeke (flax). We present Māori women keen to preserve and promote the art of raranga in the traditional Māori style. You have a rare opportunity to share in this experience.

Call in at the studio to purchase quality local weaving. For workshops on putiputi (flowers) or kono, konae, konoroa (small baskets) contact Missy 022-161-9762 (15 – 21 Oct) or Emma 022-011-7756 (22 – 28 Oct). Ask about the giant tukutuku panel and how you can assist with its completion.

Toi Ora is an offering of three Māori inspired arts events for your family’s enjoyment and participation in the Nelson Arts Festival Please see other listings for the Harakeke Weaving Workshops at the Provincial Museum and Founders Heritage Park and the Regional Maori Urban Art Competition and Exhibition at the Refinery Art Space, Halifax St, Nelson.
