Your guide to events in Nelson, New Zealand
Monday 6th February 2012
The fourth annual International Kai Festival is on again this Waitangi Day, Monday 6th February, with Founders Heritage Park and Whakatu Marae working closely together to present a range of traditional and international foods to sample.
Whakatu Marae will also host two Powhiri, a traditional welcome for visitors to the Marae, at 11.00am and 1.00pm. There will be a huge variety of international foods on offer made by families living in the Nelson community. Small portions of food are priced at $2.50 or $5.00 to encourage visitors to try a wide range of each.
“Sharing of food brings people together in cultures all around the world” says Founders Park Facility Manager, Maria Anderson. “Families who have a love for their traditional food have been invited to participate in this event and this year we have also invited local restaurants to be involved”.
Live music and Kapa Haka performances will be held at both Whakatu Marae and Founders Park, alongside stalls selling traditional arts and crafts. Entry is by gold coin donation.
