As the title suggests 60 years, 60 Pots celebrates the career of veteran potter Mirek Smíšek and defines the unique qualities of his work.

Moyra Elliott, artist, curator and co-author of the recently published Cone Ten Down: Studio Pottery in New Zealand, 1945 – 1980, will give an illustrated talk in association with the curent art exhibition at The Suter Art Gallery MIREK SMÍŠEK 60 YEARS 60 POTS.

Working with clay has been a life long activity for Mirek Smíšek, starting from his childhood in Czechoslovakia, to launching his independent ceramics career in Nelson in 1954 and continuing today in his studio near Waikanae.
This exhibition was curated by Gary Freemantle for the Mahara Gallery, Waikanae and includes loans from Nelson collections.
