MIREK SMÍŠEK 60 YEARS 60 POTS Art Exhibition at The Suter Art Gallery

Saturday 13th February–Sunday 28th March 2010

Working with clay has been a life long activity for Mirek Smíšek, starting from his childhood in Czechoslovakia, to launching his independent ceramics career in Nelson in 1954 and continuing today in his studio near Waikanae.
This exhibition was curated by Gary Freemantle for the Mahara Gallery, Waikanae and includes loans from Nelson collections.

A handsome catalogue accompanies the exhibition and is available for purchase at The Suter reception for $45.

Floortalk: Saturday 13 February at 2 pm
Join Mirek Smíšek for an illustrated talk about some of his favourite ceramic traditions.

Lecture: Sunday 14 March 2 pm
Moyra Elliott, artist, curator and co-author of the recently published Cone Ten Down: Studio Pottery in New Zealand, 1945 – 1980, gives an illustrated talk.
