Your guide to events in Nelson, New Zealand
Saturday 24th–Sunday 25th April 2010
The 3rd annual Lest We Forget ANZAC experience offers the opportunity to discover our wartime history and stories in a unique, fully-interactive way. This event is not to glorify war, but to remind us what it meant to us as a community, as a Nation, and to remember those that fought and died - for us.
You will see children evacuees waving goodbye to their parent, patrolling soldiers, 'Allo 'Allo at Cafe Renee. You will see (and hear) battle re-enactments with guns blazing, retreats and attacks.
2010 offers a glimpse into life as a Prisoner of War (POW) with a replica POW camp, complete with escape attempts and the daily drudge. The popular 'Walls of Remembrance offers even more local stories, recollections and memories from land-girls, soldiers, POW's, spies, Home guard, Sailors and Airmen.
You will be offered the opportunity, to view top quality, live Theatre performances - one a play written by a local woman based on her family members' story of life as a POW.
One thing is certain - as with the thousands of Nelsonians who have attended the Lest We Forget events over the past 2 years, you will remember - and you will never forget.
