Your guide to events in Nelson, New Zealand
Friday 4th–Monday 7th June 2010
Ceol Aneas (Music of the South in Irish Gaelic) is New Zealand's Irish music festival held annually in Nelson and recognised as one of Australasia's major Irish music gatherings, attracting traditional Irish musicians and music lovers from around the country and overseas.
Similar to festivals in Ireland, traditional music sessions will be happening till late at The House of Ales, The Free House, Accents on the Park and other venues and free to watch. While the session is not a public performance as such, the energy and atmosphere ('craic') created by the musicians is fantastic entertainment.
Members of the band Beoga, from County Antrim, Ireland will teach workshops for players of Irish music. You can see them in concert 7.30pm Saturday 5th April at The Theatre Royal Gala opening festival. After, they will play in the the sessions around town with the other tutors, musicians and students from the school.
A singing workshop with Niamh Dunne from Beoga, is open to singers who have some experience in singing and would like to know more about performing Irish traditional song. More information at www.ceolaneas.org or email info@ceolaneas.org
