PORT NELSON, HAVEN AHOY! exhibition

Monday 4th October 2010–Sunday 17th April 2011

In December 1841 the Clifford left from England bound for Nelson. It arrived in May 1842. We know a lot about the voyage because we have a diary from the Gapper Family and the logbook of the ship's doctor Thomas Hughes.
The exhibition is laid out like the inside of a saling ship with opportunities for hands-on experiences as well.
Children can purchase and create their own Passport for the voyage and families are encouraged to purchase a Ticket of Passage that allows them to visit as often as they like during the voyage.
The diary and ships log are on the Museum website and extracts are published once each week in the Nelson Mail. Every child visiting the exhibition receives an old world map that they can use to plot the voyage as it takes place.
We also have available for purchase 'Jessie Jenkin's Diary' written in the voice of a 13 year old girl on board a voyage of the 'Lord Auckland'.
The Museum is very lucky to have the support of sponsors to help fund the exhibition - Port Nelson Ltd, MoreFM, Nelson Pine Industries Ltd, Wilsons Abel Tasman, Haven Realty and the Eureka Trust.
